Paris Saint-Germain Edges Olympique de Marseille in a Shootout to Claim Trophee des Champions Season-Opening Trophy in the Middle East.

PSG players celebrating

PSG has now won the prestigious cup on 14 different occasions.

Paris Saint-Germain needed a stoppage-time equaliser followed by a successful penalty shootout to get past their arch-rivals in Kuwait and secure a record-extending fourth consecutive French Super Cup victory.

The Champions League holders seemed to be coasting towards a comfortable win in the showdown featuring the Ligue 1 winners and the French Cup winners after Ousmane Dembele opened the net early on.

However, the southern French side struck twice late to seize a shock advantage. First, Mason Greenwood scored from the spot-kick, before the defender inadvertently directed the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a remarkable turn of events, Goncalo Ramos snatched a vital equaliser in the dying moments to send the contest into a penalty shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Chevalier then stood as the hero, stopping decisive kicks from O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

In the shootout, Ramos, the midfielder, Nuno Mendes, and the young talent all scored with composure for Paris Saint-Germain to complete a 4-1 shootout win.

Now 14-time champions Paris Saint-Germain, who met last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Marseille after completing a league and cup double, have now lifted this competition for the twelfth time in the past thirteen years.
